Luis lives in California and works in the mental health field in Los Angeles. His poetry has been published by Blue Collar Review, Deadbeat Press, Kendra Steiner Editions, Mad Swirl, Thirteen Myna Birds, and Unlikely Stories. His latest poetry book, Make the Water Laugh, was published by Rogue Wolf Press in 2021. I am partial to Coke and I say soda pop only when I bring up Soda Pop's name in The Outsiders.

HOODIE AND COCAINE

LUIS CUAUHTÉMOC BERRIOZÁBAL

Every time I wear

The Echo and the Bunnymen

concert shirt, I get

positive comments from

strangers I meet.

Today was no different.

It is the best fucking

shirt in the place I was told.

As soon I walked

into Alex’s Bar in Long Beach

the ticket taker told me

I worked for Echo and the

Bunnymen. He said, the

singer is a pill. He said

I have so many stories

about him. He told me before

he went on stage to make

sure to guard two things

with my life, his hoodie

and his cocaine.
