DS Maolalai has been nominated nine times for Best of the Net and five times for the Pushcart Prize. His poetry has been released in two collections, "Love is Breaking Plates in the Garden" (Encircle Press, 2016) and "Sad Havoc Among the Birds" (Turas Press, 2019). BIRDS BETWEEN CHANNELS
delicious, the sequined air
in spiralled falls this morning:
a light snow, twisting
like bees between the bushes
and the yawn-stretching out
leafless trees. I zip my coat
and pull the dog down
and out to frozen pavements.
she shivers, feeling miserable,
though I feel snow-
fall fine. I love
this weather;
these ice crystals
placing flannels
on my hangover. I stretch
my neck and face
it upward, at birds
between channels
on a broken tv.
